Progressive House Inspired Art

Rhythm and flow painiting

Artist Statement

My Inspiration comes always from Music. It was Progressive House Music during lockdown 2020 that was the catalyst. I went back to things I loved and this Music I once immersed in was the inspiration to take up painting again after 20 years. Today it remains the veichle through which I like to express my emotions and feelings through my Art. My approach is very experimental as I want to capture the energy of the Music, this opens up to me new places where I feel free, I set out to record that feeling, its my journal of that moment in time.

My musical taste is quite eclectic and I would describe it as everything that connects with me, from Irish traditional to electronic with everything in-between. From the Music my work often takes the form of landscapes. These have always been the backbone of my work from an early age,

Sometimes the Music dictates a more abstract style. Through Art I want to remain spontaneous and not over think the piece as I believe each one is truly unique in my envelope of emotions.

I enjoy seeking out new Music in various genres that connect with me. Friends often send me the music they have heard which I love as it proves Music is the Language of the planet. Through painting, I want the viewer to connect to the work in their own way.

Sometimes I like to dance when I paint, this I believe natures that energy Im seeking to inspire me. I use electronic Music In my studio, this brings me back to my youth when I loved to go out clubbing. I believe its very multi layered genre of Music, with a multitude of styles contained in it. Its always there I find euphoria which I capture for my work , this then remains for me as a record of time. To time stamp that feeling, I use the Music title or a lyric as the name of the artwork, this serves as a record and allows me to communicate with emotion rather than dialogue with the viewer. In my last solo show I supplied the viewer the Music that inspired me to hear while connecting with the piece.

I enjoy experimenting with mark making and media and Im always trying new things which means my work is always evolving.

I truly believe that painting is a medium that can evoke strong emotions and messages to an audience. Every brushstroke I make tells a story, conveys an emotion, and captures the essence of my work. For me, art is about pushing boundaries and constantly exploring new techniques and styles. Through my artwork, I hope to inspire others to look beyond the obvious and see the beauty hidden in the world.

“Painting is a faith, and it imposes the duty to disregard public opinion. I want to paint something of the eternal which the halo used to symbolize, and which we seek to convey by the actual radiance and vibration of our coloring… I want to paint what I feel, and I feel music in color.” — Vincent van Gogh
“I paint to the rhythm of the music—each brushstroke a note, each colour a chord. The canvas becomes a symphony where sound and vision dance as one.”
